You do not have to be a student at IU, or any other university, to take our courses. We welcome students who are not in degree-seeking programs, as well as those who are.
Core Courses
Certain courses are required as part of a certificate or degree program’s core curriculum. Students admitted to the program may not substitute a core course. Priority for registration in such courses will be granted to students who are admitted to the program. Students who are not admitted to a program may request authorization to take a core course. Enrollment requests will be processed as opportunities allow. Core courses are identified with a 
icon on the course listings each semester.
Exploratory Courses
Exploratory courses are designed to introduce students to a special topic or field of study. Exploratory courses are identified with a 
icon on the course listings each semester.Students are not required to be admitted to a program to register for these courses. If you are new to Indiana University or the School of Education, we invite you to engage in a new learning experience through an exploratory course.
